A Third of A Year

NOTE: This blog post was started on December 15, 2010 and it has taken more than a month to finish with links and photos.  A more complete update of the holidays and new year to follow shortly.

First the statistical updates:  Height (length really): 25 1/2″ putting her in the 90th percentile, she weighs 15lbs 5.5oz which puts at the 75th percentile and her brainiac head is 16 1/2″ in circumference, the 70% percentile.  The pediatrician gave her a clean bill of health and us a verbal pat on the back.  She received some vaccines by injection, which she took like a champ!  She had stopped crying by the time the nurse walked out and shed only a single tear.  Pitiful but quickly recoverable.

We celebrated by buying a Christmas tree.

For those of you who have asked or who are curious but not bold enough to ask here are some of the details of the babe.

Yes we are still giving her exclusively breast milk and yes we are still cloth diapering her.  We plan to introduce solids (really purees) at about six months.

Cloth diapering- we did not go with a cloth diapering “system” but rather use a home grown system we’ve created to fit our and Rayleigh’s needs.

We use cloth prefold inserts with separate shell.  The shells we’ve decided on are Flip, they are a line from bumGenius.  They seem to contain everything and stay dry- as a bonus they are a “grow with me” type system which means we should, with luck, be able to use the same shells from now until she’s potty trained.  A real bonus when looking at the cost savings.  She has been in cloth since we came home from the hospital.  While some people use them only at home, if you are reading this you probably know that would severely limit when we use them, but we use them on the go, vacations, family visits or the mall.  We’ve been very happy and since we haven’t had any issues with diaper rash we assume Rayleigh is too.

Stay tuned to see what Santa has in store for us. Until then, feel free to read all about Rayleigh’s first year in her letter to santa.

  1. Kudos to you for using cloth diapers all the time! I really love Rayleigh’s letter to Santa! What a fantastic thing for her to have when she gets older! You two are making memories last a lifetime, truly!

  2. show tooth Ha! mighty cold here would like to show the little one the horses. gypsey is so anxious to please she seems almost needy. maybe we could go sled riding and then come in the house for hot chocolate or would she prefer vodka? at any rate it would be nice to see you all in person.

  3. Hey there Sis. I hope you had a wonderful birthday with your husband and daughter. Your gift is going to be a little late- I’ve been working on it in the evenings after I do the job hunting and interviewing deeds. It took me longer than I hoped and I sent it out this morning. None the less I wish you a Happy Birthday! I love you.
    Nic
